At the Vital Speeches website, a pastor at a NASCAR race publicly thanks God for fast cars, big engines, grabby tires and his own "smokin' hot wife." Do not miss the video.

Thanks for the link, David. I had heard this discussed on WMBI (Moody) radio, but hadn't heard the clip.
Was it irreverent? Did it reduce a prayer to the throne of God to a shill for NASCAR and its sponsors? Or was it the heartfelt prayer of thanks from a pastor who truly loves NASCAR and the people who follow it?
I still can't tell.

It was all of those things, I guess.
And a pretty good thing to put in a time-capsule to express the utter insanity and stupidity of our culture.
Or do you think there's any chance that spectacle could look GOOD to future civilizations?

If you open the Vital Speeches time capsule in 20 years, and decide to use this as an example of how good speeches used to be, you will then be able to safely conclude that civilization is doomed.
Or that NASCAR was more important than most of us have ever realized.
