I love golf, and I love America, so I should love the Ryder Cup above all things.
Then why does it strike me as alternately scary (do we need to be accentuating the "USA vs. the world" notion?) ... sentimental (these guys are either pumping their fists in a victorious rage or crying their eyes out) ... and pointless (our country club brats have more character than your country club brats).
No, I don't like the Ryder Cup. I think it's a platform for otherwise selfish, self-seeking professional golfers to feel they're doing something important for their "country."
Sorry, boys. I don't buy it.
finally, a rational comment about the sport of golf.
i was a ride-along observer in a round of golf yesterday. i was content being the cart driver and having a couple beers with friends who were playing. on one hole they convinced me to take a tee shot and i hit the ball farther than all three of them.
really, what's the big deal about golf?!

Putting.

Well, I'd take it a step further and say pretty much everything after the drive. Your long irons are a bitch to hit at all, your short game takes the hands of a surgeon, and putting will turn your hair gray in one season. Play a full round. You'll either be hooked or swear it was invented by the devil.... or both.
