How we connect is irrelevant. We choose to make the connections as deep or shallow as they are.

But I DO think the Facebook "Like" feature allows us to be quietly "there" for our friends in ways we might not be otherwise.

Somebody posts something about feeling better after an illness. Would I call them and tell them I'm glad? No, that would be a pain in both our asses. But I love that I can just say, "Like," and let them know I'm watching, lovingly.

That sort of thing DOES provide real glue, and keep us connected and up to date between more substantive meetings.
