Seems to me that endorsing is too easy - you just push a button. Therefore, endorsements have no meaning in the grand scheme of things. I have been endorsed by people who have no real knowledge of my capabilities, but I will only return the favour if I have actual first-hand experience with that person's work.

Written recommendations are another matter. You actually have to have worked with someone to be able to write a credible recommendation.

Everyone keeps endorsing my Microsoft skills. Hah. How do they know I am not using Ubuntu?

I am experiencing this as well...in fact I have refused to click on the links in the emails for fear they are spam.
