G.E. Vice Chair Beth Comstock retired awhile back to write a book and do things like ... hike the Grand Canyon.
She recently posted about that on LinkedIn:
"Hiking in nature is one of those activities that renews me, but it's also a good metaphor for working your way through difficult projects or challenging times. You have a goal in mind but you also have to work through the ups and downs of the journey and just keep pushing forward."
Oh yes! Traversing a canyon carved by nature over two billion years always puts me in mind of the challenges and opportunities we faced during our SAP conversion back in 2015.
Comstock garnered 871 likes and 38 comments in five hours for an observation whose style and substance conjures visions of shambling across a fallow Nebraska wheat field on a gray day in March.
Business executives try most of all to be noncontroversial. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ. Once I interviewed a fellow who was running the fundraising campaign at a medical center where I worked. He was head of a "wealth management" company. I am usually pretty good at interviewing people. But he was so astoundingly dull I ended up using for the quotes in my story those that one of my colleagues had written for him for a speech.
