I've been thinking about this a lot lately, and you hit the nail on the head, my friend. I've always been uncomfortable with the idea of a "personal brand" and you articulated why. I'm tired of the carefully curated personas that are especially on display via social media. Let it all hang out, indeed. And for those who don't like what they see, well, they probably weren't such an important part of my life after all.

He was born. He carefully cultivated his personal brand. He died.

David,

As usual, you are spot on! I was just having this discussion with an author via private message who is an expert on the 80/20 rule and how difficult, nigh impossible it is to build a personal brand and to do it without being a jerk, show off or phony.

Gary Vaynerchuck beats this drum a lot. I heard him say that, in order to build brand, you should put out 100 pieces of content across multiple social media channels DAILY!

I'd rather be locked out of my hotel due to a storm and do a pub crawl til the wee hours of the morning!

Thanks for this!

I will have to start following Vaynerchuck on LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat.

Maybe if I get to know his personal brand well enough, I'll screw up the courage to ask: "How many vayners could a vaynerchuck chuck if a vaynerchuck could chuch vayners?"

So are you saying I’m not who Google says I am? Both of my fans will be so disappointed.
